The necessities change for packing your diaper bag when the seasons change. I honestly think I pack even more in your diaper bag in the Summer than in the Winter, and I have some things that will make your life so much better and easier!
A Big Diaper Bag
The first step in how to pack your diaper bag for your toddler in the summer is a big bag! Click here to check out the bag I have. It has many pockets and a lot of space!
The only thing it doesn’t have is insulated pockets, so if you go with this super affordable diaper backpack, I highly recommend also getting an insulated lunch box.
Toiletry Necessities
- Medicine bag with hair ties, thermometer, band-aids, antibiotic cream
- Diapers
- Baby wipes
- Lotion
- All-natural oil-based diaper rash cream (Check out why I don’t use petroleum jelly products anymore here!)
- Tissues
- Chapstick
Sunscreen
I used to use Babyganics, but I’m now switching to Babo sunscreen and Earth Mama Sunscreen because they are both more low-toxic and safe for babies and kids!
Bug Spray

If you haven’t seen it yet, check out my post on The Best Bug Spray for Babies to get my DIY natural bug spray recipe and bug bite itch stick recipe! I also share other fantastic alternatives you can purchase to use for your baby or children.
Travel Snack Container

This travel snack container is seriously one of my favorite purchases for my toddler! I keep one of the smaller pockets of the diaper bag mostly for snacks, but this makes it so easy to pull out all the snacks you brought at once and let your toddler choose and then unscrew the container, and it’s a perfect handheld snack! It’s the best.
Sunglasses or a Hat
My daughter is a sunglass princess, but if your little one isn’t a fan, I recommend a sun hat or bucket hat to keep the sun out of their eyes!

A Jacket
I always keep a jacket or a hoodie in my diaper bag in case it gets chilly outside.
Extra Socks & Shoes
If my daughter is wearing tennis shoes, then I’ll bring sandals in the bag and vise versa just in case! And I also keep extra pairs of socks if the original pair she’s wearing gets dirty, wet, or tear.
Extra Outfit
If my daughter is wearing a summer outfit such as a dress, romper, or shorts and a shirt, then I’ll pack her swimsuit, swim cover-up, and flip flops!
And if we’re going to the pool or beach and she’s already wearing a swimsuit and cover-up, then I pack a regular change of clothes such as a dress, romper, or shorts & t-shirt outfit!
Disposable Placemats
These disposable placemats are life-saver, especially now during this pandemic. They’re so easy to use. Just peel and stick them on to keep your little one protected from germs on the table!
In addition to these placemats I have a plastic container that I keep small pieces of paper and crayons in for when we’re out in case my daughter wants something to do!
Hand Sanitizer
I keep hand sanitizer attached on the outside of the diaper bag for easy access to always use before and after eating on the go or after going into a store or the park.
What About Toys?
When it comes to taking toys to the park or somewhere similar, Keagan has a toddler backpack in which we pack her bubbles, magnifying glass, chalk, and extra sunscreen!
But if this won’t work for you (sometimes it doesn’t for us!) We just add these toys in the diaper bag.

I really hope this helped you figure out what you should pack in your diaper bag for your toddler in the Summer! Comment below your favorite thing I shared or your favorite product/tip that I didn’t mention!
