More About Me & My Family
Hi, I’m Katelyn Lauren. You can think of me as your encouraging, birth-loving friend, PLUS your personal certified lactation counselor and certified childbirth educator.
Although pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding are natural, they are not always intuitive. My passion is helping mamas and parents just like you become encouraged and empowered through evidence-based education and resources right at your fingertips, ANYTIME!
When I was pregnant, I looked up a lot of information online. I was so excited to be a mama! But once I went into labor and then went into my breastfeeding journey, I was shocked by how unprepared I was. But now I know I was looking in the wrong places to prepare myself for these experiences and new chapters in my life.
So, I created Birthing Balance to ensure mamas, just like you can find the information you need to have an empowered pregnancy, positive childbirth, and successful breastfeeding journey.
I began recognizing my passion for pregnancy and birth while I was pregnant. Then I experienced obstetric violence during childbirth, followed by great difficulties breastfeeding my daughter. My story has led me here; Determined and passionate about making a difference and creating a positive community for fellow mamas.
Outside of Birthing Balance and midwifery, I love spending quality time with my family, practicing yoga, meditating, doing HIIT workouts, reading fictional books, and homeschooling.
Talk soon, mama!

Some of Our Favorite Products
We review and recommend some of our favorite high-quality and effective products based on our personal and professional experiences.
1. The Haakaa

The Haakaa is a highly recommended breast pump in our online breastfeeding support class, The Balanced Breastfeeding Course!
This is one of our favorite tools because it is so convenient if you’re breastfeeding but also wanting to build a sufficient stash of breast milk on the side.
This breast pump works by putting it on the opposite breast that your baby is nursing on. It will catch your let-down, and with proper application, will add suction to express breast milk!
However, avoid using your Haakaa more than 2-4x every 24 hours, as overuse of any breast pump can create an oversupply which can come with a host of uncomfortable symptoms for you and your baby.

Plus, you can find the Haakaa here on Amazon.
2. Electric Breast Pumps

In general, whenever you and your baby are apart is when you need an electric breast pump!
For example, if you’re at work away from your baby and your baby typically feeds every 3 hours, then ensure you’re pumping every 3 hours while apart.
The Zomee Hands-Free Breast Pump is a convenient option to use at home or on-the-go!
On the other hand, if you’re looking for a more classic electric breast pump, check out the Unimom Opera+ or the Zomee Z2. For these pumps you can use my discount code: KATELYN20 to take 20% off your new breast pump!

3. A Birth Ball

A birth ball is an amazing tool for your pregnancy and birth experience!
Research has found that using a birth ball can:
- Decrease labor pain
- Help prepare the cervix for labor
- Increase your chances of a vaginal birth
- Decrease anxiety
- Improve posture and balance

As a birth worker, I highly recommend the Trideer Extra Thick Yoga Ball as it is heavy-duty and BPA-free.
4. A Peanut Ball

A peanut ball is another effective tool for your labor, whether you’re having a home birth or a natural hospital birth!
Like a birth ball, a peanut ball is an inflatable ball made out of PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) materials, which allows them to hold a lot of weight and last a long time. However, these are shaped like a giant peanut!
Research studies have found that using a peanut ball in labor can:
- Shorten labor
- Increase your chances of a vaginal birth, therefore, decreasing your risk of a cesarean birth
- Decrease pain in labor
- Reduce fatigue during labor by reducing the length of labor
- Help your baby get into an optimal position for labor and birth
- Decrease the risk of a forceps or vacuum-assisted birth

5. Birth Comb

A birth comb is such a simple and affordable natural birth tool, yet highly recommended because it can really help with the process of coping in labor.
In our natural birth class, The Birthing Balance Method (Coming soon!), we go over how different natural birth tools works and how to effectively cope during your labor.
A birth comb works by initiating counter-irritation. Counter-irritation means you’re creating pain or discomfort somewhere on your body to distract from another area of discomfort and to release even more endorphins in response to the pain, which reduce your perception of pain.
If you’re interested in purchasing a birth comb to add. to your natural birth tool kit, it’s important that it is strong, works to induce enough discomfort, and fits in your hand perfectly.
